In earlier times, golf players used to create their own clubs by using wood. Many people had a habit of using simple sticks to hit the balls which became a usual habit for them. People actually enjoyed this game. This initiated a new era in the game for the first time. It became very popular in Scotland. This game was then named Golf. With this, also emerged a few clubs for playing golf. It also saw an evolution of the history of the club, which began in Scotland. The use of the wood was widely used to create the means for playing golf.

In the mid of 16th century "Featherie Golf" was initiated which continued for almost a span of 200 years. Many used the most expensive balls for the purpose of playing this game. Nevertheless, it was very difficult to maintain them, since they used to get damage very easily. Thus, more of the wooden clubs were used. The shafts in the 70s were also made from a lightweight material of wood such as ash, pear and apple.

In the early 80s, iron clubs became very popular. However, they were very heavy and difficult to handle. Shaft like hickory was very famous in the 19th Century. Hickory was also exported to Scotland and other countries. This century also saw the development in the varieties of clubs and designs.

The latest golf clubs are the ones, which are made up of titanium material. They are light in weight. In fact, many golf clubs these days make use of highest technology of combining both putter and iron golf clubs together. Great development has also taken place in the manufacturing of shaft and golf club for proper fitting. Thus, the development has enhanced the enjoying level while playing the game of golf.
